Susan Cofer, born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1943, attended art school at Mrs. High's house as a child. That school became the Atlanta College of Art and the house the Woodruff Arts Center. She studied art history at Hollins College. The Heath Gallery marked her first solo exhibition, in 1976, with numerous exhibitions following. In 2012, the High Museum of Art exhibited ninety works, including drawings, sculptures, and sketchbooks, in a solo show. Recapitulation, 1963–2015, at the Madison Morgan Cultural Center, extended the High exhibition with colored pencil drawings and her mixed media portrait sculptures.
